CHILE

NATURAL DIVERSITY

Chile is one of world’s most diverse countries and is surrounded by four naturally occurring borders: the driest desert in the world in the North, the Andes Mountain range in the East, the Patagonian ice fields in the South and the Pacific Ocean in the West, which have made Chile an important wine producer.

” The range of Chile’s natural features almost seems too much for one nation to contain within its borders, and it is certainly a challenge to try to put it into words” Peter Richards MW

VALLE DE SAN ANTONIO

CHILE´S COASTAL VALLEY

The San Antonio Valley is located just 100 kilometers west of Santiago, Chile’s capital city. Maria Luz Marin was one of the valley´s pioneering founders together with Viña Garcés Silva, Viña Matetic y Viña Leyda. Nowadays, San Antonio is divided into 4 sub-valleys: Leyda, Malvilla, Lo Abarca, and Rosario.

D.O. LO ABARCA.

THE TRUE COOL CLIMATE

Casa Marin is located in the small village of Lo Abarca, only 4kms. away from the Pacific Ocean. Due to its proximity to the ocean and the cold Humboldt Current coming from the Antarctic, temperatures in Lo Abarca do not rise to 27 degrees Celsius. Ninety percent of the vineyard´s 41 hectares are located on steep hills which creates micro terroirs and differing soils, sun exposure, and temperature. Due to the complex topography, the vineyard is divided into more than 50 small blocks, each requiring its own management. The low temperatures, poor and mineral soils (mostly limestone with marine deposits), and low average yields of 4 tons per hectare result in concentrated grapes, producing elegant wines high in acidity and low pH.
